Killa-Cola

posted Sunday, 21 September 2003

Before you enjoy your next chilled can of Coca-Cola, take a look at this! Now you can't say that you didn't know anymore. I have two articles about the most popular beverage (probably also one of the most unhealthy ones) and also the most valuable brand name in the world on my blog now. And there are way more crimes out there caused by Coca-Cola and other corporations, which we have no idea of. That's why it is vital that we inform ourself, cos otherwise we'll never know what destruction and murder we are supporting when we go shopping. But in the end we actually don't want to know anyway, because that would mean that we have to cut back on our luxury. Who cares about other peoples' suffering far far away, which we cause, anyway.

"Ignorance is bli$$!"

~peace~

PS: I actually got this page from United Students Against Sweatshops (USAS). Unfortunatly the activists network is down, therefore you currently can't send protest emails to those responsible for these damn crimes. Anyway, once it's working again visit: write a protest mail and do your part, I will do mine. (oki, the link is up again & I sent my letter already! ...just give them some phantasie adress in the US)

PPS.: Oh, what a coincidence... on the same day when I published this here about Coke, the BBC also reports about Coca Cola. Let's see what it is about this time.. Coca-Cola challenged in Kerala ... Ohhh... Coca-Cola is polluting India's rivers... how nice. Let's hope they are being forced to close their damn plant or clean up the water again! $ucker$!

(Thanks! Angelus for the link) ...btw... I also posted an article on the river pollution in India caused by Coca-Cola previously on this blog.. you can find the article here.

Sept. 11, 2003 - Coca-Cola Union Leader’s Son Kidnapped As Attacks on SINALTRAINAL Escalate

Note From the Web Master - "As as new father, I am shocked and appalled to hear about something like this. To imagine my baby boy in 10 years being kidnapped, tortured, and left on the side of the road... How can people treat other people in this fashion. This day is hard enough to bear... now this news!!! Unbelievable... How could the people in this world hurt each other the way they do?"

Today (Sept. 10, 2003), at about 1 p.m. in a spot known as Simon Bolivar Blvd., (La Tienda la Esmeralda) in Barranquilla, Columbia, four unknown masked subjects pulled 15-year-old David Jose Carranza Calle — son of Limberto Carranza, a Coca-Cola worker in the city of Barranquilla who is the national director of SINALTRAINAL — from his bike and forced him into a white truck. They took him away and tortured him, asking the whereabouts of his father. At about 4:30 p.m., they dropped him off at a spot known as Canyon of the Ahuyama, where he was picked up by a man passing by and brought to the police. Meanwhile, at the house of Limberto Carranza, they received a phone call saying: “Unionist son of a bitch; we are going to break you. And if you won’t break, we will attack your home.”

COKE CAN'T HIDE ITS CRIMES IN COLOMBIA

Isidro Segundo Gil, an employee at a Coca-Cola bottling plant in Colombia, was killed at his workplace by paramilitary thugs. His children, now living in hiding with relatives, undersand all too well why their homeland is known as "a country where union work is like carrying a tombstone on your back." Read More...

HUMAN RIGHTS SCANDAL LEAVES '$IX-PACK' SPEECHLESS

A few corporate power brokers at Coca-Cola and Atlanta-based SunTrust Banks today stand accused as accessories to a violent crime wave. While they sit on their assets, workers at Coke bottling plants in Colombia risk their lives every day simply by going to work. Read More...

Dear Coca-Cola Board Members,

I am shocked to learn of your indifference to the safety of workers who bottle your products. There are undisputed reports that Coca-Cola bottling plant managers in Colombia, South America, allowed and encouraged paramilitary death squads to murder, torture and kidnap SINALTRAINAL leaders and members in an effort to crush their union.
